The event is free and is not ticketed. The event is not sold out.
Founded in 1969 by Melanie Russell (Lee) and Rosalind Thompkins (Lynch) and over one hundred courageous students, the Howard Gospel Choir (HGC) of Howard University is the first collegiate musical aggregation of its kind.
The choir consists of students and members of the Howard University community who align their hearts and gifts to fulfill the purpose and mission of the choir, to spread the good news.
In addition to distinguished professionals in every imaginable discipline, past members of this award-winning ensemble include Grammy Award winners, the Maestro, Richard Smallwood, a founding member of the choir, and Elbernita “Twinkie” Clark of the legendary Clark Sisters. Exceptional musicians have always been instrumental in shaping HGC’s unique sound to embrace both contemporary and traditional gospel, church hymns, Negro spirituals and classically arranged anthems.
For over five decades, the Howard Gospel Choir of Howard University, has set a high standard as a premier performing arts ensemble and a leader among collegiate musical aggregations. The choir has shared stages with celebrities, political leaders from the beloved Yard of Howard University to the White House.
The choir is currently under the gifted and masterful musical direction of Reginald Golden, a two-time Howard University graduate and Darrell Brown, a Howard University alumnus, is the assistant musical director.
